What is MailGamer?

MailGamer = @ + gamepad

MailGamer is an application that allows you to play simple games like Tic Tac Toe or Sea Battleship using email messages. You can play with computer or invite your friends to play with you. The main advantage is: your friends and you — don't need MailGamer application to play, because you use it only once you start a new game campaign. Your friends recieve email messages from us and they are ready to play directly inside these messages. MailGamer simply transforms an ordinary email message into a game pad. Players play without any applications installed, simply by receiveing emails the time they want.

MailGamer is a great motivation and challenge tool. You can add your own text messages to the games you start, motivation like "who won — pay for lunch" or "I win — you take a coffee break with me" and etc. Moreover you can change an email design layout in games you start, from official to more lovely. You also control difficulty, game scenario, playboard size, and even a spy-mode.

STORY

MailGamer application is a type of PBeM (play by email) games, also known as PBM (play by mail). This is an e-mail correspondence gaming application, dedicated to bring you and your friends a great gaming experience, where you play with your friends directly inside an e-mail messages, not involving an application itself.

According to  Wikipedia we know, that the first such game offered via major e-mail services was WebWar II (based on Starweb and licensed from Flying Buffalo) from Neolithic Enterprises who accepted e-mail turns from all of the major e-mail services including CompuServe in 1983.

Before that, correspondence paper chess has been played by mail for centuries. The boardgame Diplomacy has been played by mail since the 1960s, starting with a printed newsletter written by John Boardman. More complex games, moderated entirely or partially by computer programs, were pioneered by Rick Loomis of Flying Buffalo in 1970.

By the way, play by mail games are often referred to as PBM games, and play by email is sometimes abbreviated PBeM — as opposed to face to face (FTF) or over the board (OTB) games which are played in person. Another variation on the name is Play-by-Internet (PBI) or Play-by-Web (PBW). In all of these examples, player instructions can be either executed by a human moderator, a computer program, or a combination of the two.

With the rise of the Internet, email and websites have largely replaced postal gaming. Play-by-mail games differ from popular online multiplayer games in that, for most computerized multiplayer games, the players have to be online at the same time — also known as synchronous play. With a play-by-mail game, the players can play whenever they choose, since responses need not be immediate; this is sometimes referred to as turn-based gaming and is common among browser-based games.

An increasingly popular format for play-by-email games is play-by-web. As with play-by-email games the players are notified by email when it becomes their turn, but they must then return to the game's website to continue playing what is essentially a browser-based game. The main advantage of this is that the players can be presented with a graphical representation of the game and an interactive interface to guide them through their turn. Since the notifications only have to remind the players that it is their turn they can just as easily be sent via instant messaging.

Opposite to browser-based games, MailGamer  uses email as a full graphical representaion of the game including interface and playboard where user can play directly inside the email, without redirection to the game's website. MailGamer uses redirection only to accept the turn from the user and moreover this process is comlpetely automated, so the user is focused on the email.

FEATURES

2 games for your choice!

MailGamer includes 2 games for your choice:
Tic Tac Toe and  Sea Battleship .

More games are on the way.

2 design layouts for your choice!

MailGamer represents 2 different design layouts for each game: classic design (so-called male design, for guys who prefer official straight design) and  lovely design (so-called female design, for ladies with feeling of love and overall not that serious). Lovely design is recommended if you use MailGamer to attract an attention and simply express your feelings. Classic design works great if you use MailGamer as a challenge between co-workers or friends.

3 game scenarios!

MailGamer has 3 unique game scenarios: You VS Me , You VS Friend , Friend VS Friend . The first scenario represents the simple mode where you play vs computer.

You receieve emails from  MailGamer server where all actions are processed and calculated by  MailGamer itself. The second scenario is the game between two people, where  MailGamer server is just redirecting and forwarding emails between two players. At the same time, MailGamer decides here who is the winner. The third scenario represents a special scenario where you are an observer (arbiter) and simply watch the game. You recieeve emails as a carbon copy with the turns made by two other players. In this mode you can watch the whole game step by step and turn by turn and you can't affect the gameplay.

MailGamer board size

MailGamer represents two board sizes for each game. For Tic Tac Toe there are 3x3 and  4x4 board size, and for Sea Battleship there are 5x5 and  10x10 board size. Bigger board size means longplay mode. For example if you play Sea Battleship with  10x10 board size, be ready to have dozens of emails in your mailbox.

MailGamer difficulty

MailGamer has two difficulty levels for each game: normal and blind. These levels are available when you play vs computer. In normal mode MailGamer thinks twice before do something. In blind mode MailGamer makes random turns. Starting a new game campaign in  MailGamer application you decide what difficulty level to choose.

MailGamer spy mode

Besides differenet design layouts, MailGamer represents a special spy mode with no graphics, just a plain text made especially for players at work or with limited Internet traffic.

In this mode MailGamer messages look like a short text messages and don't attract any attention, that's why we call this — spy mode. Starting a new game campaign in  MailGamer application you decide what mode to choose.

MailGamer personal messages

MailGamer gives you a possibility to setup your own custom messages in three different game states: invitation (welcome) message, winner message, looser message. To keep an interest to a game you can prepare your own messages that will be sent along with the game email. Moreover you can create a motivation message like:

"Who won — pay for lunch!"
or
"I win — you take a coffee break with me!"

This transforms MailGamer into a real situaion maker, where you play game and have a strong motivation simultaneously.
By default MailGamer application has:

"Hi, let's play my game!" — as an invitation message,

"Congratulations! You won the game!" — as a winner message,

"I'm sorry! You lost..." — as a looser message.

Be creative and invite more people to play with you!

Spam filter!

When you type email addresses in MailGamer application, it immediately runs the search in our database with blocked emails to protect our users from spam. Each our email message includes a bottom line where it says:

"If you consider this mail as spam or you don't want to play with us, please unsubscribe and we will place your mail in our blacklist, so no one can use your mail in our games" .

If player decides to choose unsubscribe, MailGamer places this address in our blacklist database, it means that starting a new game campaign MailGamer application checks all filled email addresses for spam in our database.

MailGamer timer

Starting a new game campaign, MailGamer runs the timer for each game. Each email message from us includes an overage time spent from the game start till the current time, so players know how much time they spend for a game. It's a motivation to speed up the game and not wasting time with delaying in replies.

MailGamer statistics

If you are a registered user in  MailGamer application, you have an access to the whole statistics about your game campaigns. We provide the information about what games you played, how many games you won or lost, when you started game campaigns and etc. This option is available only if you register in  MailGamer  application.

On a final stage before starting a new game campaign, MailGamer application renders an email game preview, depending on selections you made while preparing a game.

This is the moment when you can get back and choose another design layout or make another settings.
